Following the decision of Bodrum Municipal Council on 08.06.2020, a Sister City relationship has been established between the two cities with the aim of providing mutual benefits in social, economic, and cultural areas, in accordance with the decision taken by Milas Municipal Council on 09.07.2020.
Within the framework of this cooperation, a cultural and nature walk titled “The Migration Route of Maussollos from Mylasa to Halikarnassos” was jointly organized by Bodrum Municipality, Milas Municipality and the Milas Museum on 25 October 2025. The event has served as a significant initiative to strengthen the sister city relations between the two municipalities and to enhance awareness of their shared cultural heritage.
Participants included municipal teams from Bodrum and Milas, specialists, representatives of city councils, and numerous citizens. The programme commenced with an informative presentation held at the Uzunyuva Tomb and Museum Complex in Milas, providing participants with background on the cultural and archaeological significance of the area.
During the addresses delivered at the event, the historical ties between Milas and Bodrum, the two ancient capitals of Karia, were underlined. It was noted that Maussollos’s decision to relocate from Mylasa to Halikarnassos had marked the beginning of a new era in the region’s history. Following the opening session, participants visited the sacred area of Labranda, where they received detailed information about its historical and architectural features.
Having successfully combined nature and cultural heritage, the event has contributed to the strengthening of inter-municipal cooperation between Bodrum and Milas. Participants emphasized that the continuation of such joint initiatives is of great importance for fostering regional solidarity and cultural awareness.
