Hekimhan, with a population of 20,106, is a historic district located in the northwest of Malatya Province. Situated in the Upper Euphrates (Yukarı Fırat Region) region of Eastern Anatolia, Hekimhan is bordered to the east by Arguvan, to the west by Kuluncak and Darende, to the south by Yazıhan and to the north by the Kangal district of Sivas. The district's topography is mountainous and rugged, characterized by a continental climate, hot and dry summers and cold, snowy winters. The flora predominantly consists of oak, juniper and hawthorn trees.
Economically, Hekimhan relies on mining, agriculture and livestock farming as its principal sources of livelihood. Since 1953, the iron mining operations initiated by Bilfer Mining have become a significant employment provider in the region. In recent years, apricot production has also increased, contributing to an improved economic outlook for the district. Industry in the area remains limited, with a few repair workshops, carpentry shops, a brick factory and an apricot processing facility.
Hekimhan is home to notable sites such as Taşhan, Köprülü Mehmet Paşa Mosque, Girmana Canyon, Yamadağı Ski Center and several recreational areas, offering a rich experience for visitors. Connectivity between Bodrum and Malatya is facilitated through flights with connections in Ankara and Istanbul, providing convenient access to the district.
The establishment of a sister-city relationship between Bodrum and Hekimhan promises a wealth of collaborative opportunities in areas such as cultural and artistic exchange, fighting against climate change, zero waste initiatives, women and family services. This partnership will pave the way for meaningful interactions that foster growth and development for both cities.
In line with this vision, we acknowledge the resolution of Hekimhan Municipality’s council, dated July 12, 2024, proposing the initiative of a sister-city relationship with Bodrum Municipality. After thorough discussions, our municipal council unanimously approved this initiative during its session on November 7, 2024. We look forward to the establishment of a partnership that will enhance the bond between our communities and create lasting positive impacts.
