Rooted in a rich tapestry of history, the district of Bucak has stood witness to the rule of Pisidians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans and Byzantines. Within its borders lie significant ancient cities such as Kremna, Kodrula and Kretapolis, which speak to its storied past. During the Ottoman era, Bucak was incorporated into the empire under Sultan Bayezid Iand in 1926, it adopted its current name during the early years of the Republic of Türkiye.
Bucak proudly showcases its cultural heritage through vibrant events such as the Marble and Salep Festival, where regional products and flavors are celebrated alongside musical and cultural performances. This district, strategically positioned at the nexus of Burdur, Isparta and Antalya, enjoys a thriving commercial life. Its prominence in the marble industry and its substantial contribution to the national sahlep trade are hallmarks of its economic vitality. Furthermore, its marble and cement factories, coupled with significant agricultural and livestock production, play pivotal roles in bolstering the national economy.
Beyond its economic endeavors, Bucak offers a wealth of natural and historical treasures, beckoning tourists with its unique charm. Iconic landmarks such as the İncir Han and Susuz Han caravanserais, along with the Seferyitiği Cave, Sığla Forestsand Kargı Kısığı Canyon, exemplify its allure. Its proximity to Antalya, merely 80 kilometers away, enhances its accessibility, while the nearby Isparta Süleyman Demirel Airport serves as a convenient gateway, supported by various transportation alternatives.
The establishment of a sister-city relationship between the municipalities of Bodrum and Bucak heralds an era of collaborative opportunities across diverse fields, including tourism, agricultural services, women and family services, climate change action and zero-waste management. This partnership aspires to foster shared growth and innovation, leveraging the strengths of both regions for mutual benefit.
In alignment with this vision, we are pleased to acknowledge the decision of Bucak Municipality's council, dated September 3, 2024, proposing the formation of a sister-city relationship with Bodrum Municipality. Following deliberations, our municipal council unanimously approved this initiative in its session held on November 7, 2024. We anticipate that this partnership will serve as a platform for meaningful exchange and enduring cooperation, fortifying the bonds between our communities.
