As part of Bodrum Municipality's agricultural development objectives, the "Ancestral Seeds Return Project" Has been launched.
As part of the project, we have provided farmers with a grant of 1000 kg of ancestral seeds obtained from our locally grown ancient Emmer wheat, which can cover an average of 40 acres of farmland. Additionally, the Agriculture, R&D, and Local Seed Center have been established in Bahçeyaka Neighborhood to ensure the secure transfer of local seeds to future generations, making a valuable contribution to the production of healthy food. Currently, we are preserving a total of 615 native seed varieties, including 439 types of ancestral seeds and 176 types of candidate seeds across our district.
During the Seed Exchange Festivals, we've shared approximately 15,000 packets of our ancestral seeds with the public, bringing our community closer to these cherished seeds.
