BODRUM MUNICIPALITY EXPANDS SISTER CITY NETWORK

Bodrum Municipality has cultivated robust cultural, art and collaborative connections through the Sister City partnerships with several cities, fostering mutual ties across numerous projects.
Bodrum Municipality forged Sister City relationships with Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality on May 6, 2009, Borçka Municipality on July 11, 2019 and Milas Municipality on June 8, 2020, formalized by the respective municipal council decisions. The collaboration with Milas Municipality included joint participation in various international events, tourism fairs, and forums.
In an effort to adopt good practices shared among Turkish local governments, Bodrum Municipality initiated the 'Field Solution Movement' project after discovering Beşiktaş Municipality's implementation. Following a visit to Beşiktaş Municipality to examine the application on-site, Bodrum Municipality officials signed a protocol for cooperation on Field Solution Movement project. These decisions were officially ratified through Bodrum Municipality Council Resolution dated March 3, 2022, and Beşiktaş Municipality Council Decision dated March 11, 2022, thereby establishing a formal Sister City relationship.
Within the Sister City relationshipt between Bodrum Municipality and Tepebaşı Municipality, officially endorsed through the municipal council decision in July 2021, the collaboration gained strength after Tepebaşı Mayor Dr. Ahmet Ataç's visit to Bodrum post-forest fires, coupled with a donation of 700 saplings. The partnership was officially formalized as a Sister City relationship through the Bodrum Municipality Council Decision on February 3, 2022. As part of the Republic's 100th-anniversary events, a concert named "Two Hands Have a Sound: Children's Symphony Orchestra" was organized by Bodrum Municipality on September 30, 2023, in collaboration with Tepebaşı Municipality.
Bodrum Municipality established a Sister City relationship with Ovacık Municipality on March 11, 2022, confirmed by the Ovacık Municipality Council Decision and Bodrum Municipality Council Decision on June 12, 2022. During the visit to Sister City Ovacık on July 25-28, 2023, the Bodrum Municipality delegation observed successful agricultural practices, fostering the exchange of experiences in agricultural projects between the two municipalities.
After the earthquake in Hatay Arsuz on February 6, 2023, Bodrum Municipality actively supported the establishment of the 'Bodrum Municipality Hatay Arsuz Friendship City.' Subsequently, on March 2, 2023, Bodrum Municipality Council decided to establish a Sister City relationship with Hatay Arsuz Municipality. This relationship was officially recognized through the Arsuz Municipality Council Decision on April 3, 2023. The friendship city is equipped with 290 container houses, offering services with added features such as walking and cycling paths, environmental safety, and social facilities, ensuring a comfortable living environment.
The Sister City relationship between Turgutreis Municipality and Houmt Souk Municipality on the Djerba island of Tunisia was strengthened with the support of relatives of Turgut Reis, a prominent figure in Turkish maritime history. The collaboration began with the 'Turgut Reis and Turkish Maritime History' symposium on May 27-28, 2011. Ankara Turkish-Tunisian Friendship Association and other organizations played a significant role in the development of bilateral relations since 2012. After the legal personality of Turgutreis Municipality ceased, local government services in this region merged under Bodrum Municipality. The Sister City Protocol between Turgutreis and Djerba/Houmt Souk Municipalities, signed on March 10, 2014, formalized the relationship.
Bodrum Municipality and Mali Lošinj Municipality established Sister City relations through an online meeting during the pandemic, signing a letter of intent on May 5, 2021. The Bodrum Municipality Council decided to formalize this relationship on May 17, 2021, and received approval from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization & Climate Change. On October 11, 2022, the Sister City Protocol was signed between Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras and Mali Lošinj Mayor Ana KUČIĆ during a ceremony in Bodrum. Additionally, Mali Lošinj, like Bodrum, is a significant part of the Green Destinations program.
Bodrum Municipality strengthened its relations with Prizren Municipality following the unofficial visit of Prizren Mayor Shaqir Totaj to Bodrum on September 12, 2022. After decisions by the Bodrum and Prizren Municipal Councils, approval was obtained from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization & Climate Change, leading to the signing of the Sister City Protocol during the official visits of Prizren Mayor Shaqir Totaj and Prizren Municipality Council Deputy Chairman Levent BUŞ to Bodrum on July 13, 2023.
As part of the visit, Prizren Municipality invited a delegation from Bodrum Municipality to the 'Dokufest Short Film Festival' held between August 9-12, 2023, in Prizren. Discussions during the visit focused on developing bilateral relations in tourism, trade, and cultural fields. There was also an agreement to promote effective tourism between Prizren and Bodrum and negotiate with airlines to increase direct flights.
