BODRUM MUNICIPALITY’S STRICT MEASURES AGANST ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLATIONS

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR LITTERING

Bodrum Municipality’s Zabıta (Municipal Police) teams are ramping up inspections to curb environmental pollution caused by cigarette butts. In the first two months of 2025 alone, a total of 336 individuals and businesses were fined, amounting to 992,208 Turkish Lira.

The inspections, which have been ongoing since September 2024, target individuals who dispose of cigarette butts on streets and sidewalks. Offenders face legal action under the Municipal Police (Zabıta) Regulations. Additionally, drivers caught tossing cigarette butts from vehicles are penalized under the same regulations.

Since the start of the initiative, 566 violators were fined a total of 1,161,432 TL in 2024, with penalties continuing into 2025. The municipality vows to maintain strict enforcement, particularly in public spaces such as parks, gardens and squares, with both plainclothes and patrol officers on duty.

Authorities emphasize their commitment to keeping Bodrum clean and urge residents and visitors to act responsibly in preserving the city’s environment.
