31.12.2024
10 Tons of Bodrum Mandarins Distributed in a Festive New Year Celebration
As part of the ongoing initiative "From Local Farmers to Our Community”, Bodrum Municipality continues to distribute locally grown Bodrum mandarins across the region. On December 31st, a special New Year’s event saw 10 tons of Bodrum mandarins handed out to residents at Bodrum Municipality Square, with Mayor Tamer Mandalinci personally leading the distribution efforts.
This large-scale initiative, coordinated by the Agricultural Services Directorate, aims to support local farmers and promote sustainable agriculture. Since December 15th, a total of 50 tons of Bodrum mandarins have been distributed in various neighborhoods, including 20 tons shared during the Bodrum Mandarin Festival in Bitez. Recent distributions have reached the communities of Akçaalan, Karaova, Çırkan and Yakaköy, ensuring that the fruit’s unique aroma and flavor reach as many residents as possible.
The New Year’s event marked a festive highlight, as families gathered in the square to receive freshly harvested mandarins, sourced from 91 local producers and 27 active orchards across the region.
Reflecting on the project, Mayor Tamer Mandalinci expressed the municipality’s dedication to both agricultural sustainability and community well-being:
“Through this initiative, we not only support our farmers but also bring the iconic Bodrum mandarin to the people. It brings us great joy to share this special fruit with its distinct fragrance and taste during the New Year festivities. Our commitment to preventing mandarins from going to waste, whether left on the branch or fallen to the ground, remains steadfast. Looking ahead to 2025, we aim to expand our agricultural projects and continue fostering the vitality of local farming. I wish all our residents a New Year filled with health, peace, happiness, and prosperity.”
The distribution program will continue to bring Bodrum mandarins to neighborhoods and public squares throughout the district, celebrating both the region’s agricultural heritage and its vibrant community spirit.
