Eco-Friendly New Year Trees Brighten Bodrum Municipality
Bodrum Municipality has embraced sustainability in its New Year decorations by transforming tree trimmings from pruning activities into unique and festive holiday trees. The initiative, led by the Parks & Green Areas Directorate, aligns with the municipality’s zero-waste principles, showcasing an innovative way to repurpose natural materials.
Collected branches and wood were crafted into creative New Year trees, which were placed across various municipal units and adorned with lights and ornaments. The initiative brought a vibrant and festive atmosphere to municipal spaces, while also emphasizing the importance of recycling and the responsible use of natural resources.
Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci highlighted the environmental message behind the project, stating:
“Our Parks and Green Areas Directorate has introduced a new dimension to New Year decorations by using materials from tree pruning. Instead of discarding or burning these branches, we turned them into something meaningful. These recycled holiday trees were distributed to our municipal departments, where staff enjoyed decorating them. Now, many parts of the municipality shine with vibrant lights and colours.
Our main goal here is to underline the value of recycling and demonstrate that everything can find a purpose. For instance, we came across a dried tree during fieldwork and I instructed the team to repurpose it. We painted it white to reflect the clarity of Bodrum’s homes and decorated it with Nazar (evil eye talisman) beads. It now stands beautifully in front of the main municipal service building.
We welcome 2025 with lights, colors and joy, and I wish everyone a bright and cheerful New Year.”
This eco-friendly initiative not only brought festive cheer to the Municipality but also served as a creative reminder of the power of recycling and sustainability.
