09.12.2024
Bodrum Municipality Launches New Measures to Combat Environmental Pollution
Bodrum Municipality has implemented a camera-based surveillance system to address pollution in public and natural spaces. Led by the Municipal Police (Zabıta) and Cleaning Services Departments, this initiative aims to identify and penalize those responsible for environmental damage.
In Akyarlar, cameras recorded individuals dumping construction debris in a frequently polluted area. As a result, fines totaling 30.000 TL were issued. Surveillance systems have already been installed in critical locations such as central Bodrum, Bitez, Turgutreis and Akyarlar, with plans to extend the system to all neighborhoods by the next tourism season.
Swift Action on Citizen Complaints
Following a report of illegal dumping in Yalıkavak, municipal teams identified the offenders and issued fines amounting to 60.000 TL for discarding construction waste in an open field.
Flooding Caused by Illegal Dumping
During recent heavy rains, a company was fined 20.000 TL for causing blocked drainage systems by dumping debris and waste on storm drains, which led to flooding.
Strict Monitoring of Cigarette Littering
The Municipality has also intensified its inspections against individuals who litter cigarette butts. Since the programme began, 413 individuals and businesses have been fined a total of 847.476 TL.
Bodrum Municipality is committed to preserving the town’s natural beauty and livability, with a firm stance against pollution in all its forms.
