SEABED CLEANING IN GÜMÜŞLÜK

The Seabed Cleaning event organized by the municipality under the slogan "The Sea Deserves the Most Blue" took place in Gümüşlük Bay.

Initiated by the municipality to clear the bays of Bodrum of waste and to raise public awareness, the Seabed Cleaning campaign continued on Wednesday, June 26, in Gümüşlük Bay. During the event, 800 kilograms of waste were collected from the sea.

Representing the Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, Deputy Mayor Yaşar Çelikkan, Municipal Council Member Ahmet Faik Karakaya and Gümüşlük Neighborhood Headman Zeki Pay participated in the Seabed Cleaning, conducted by a volunteer diving team organized by the Bodrum Municipality’s Support Services & Cleaning Affairs Directorate.

The objective of the event was to clean Bodrum's bays of garbage and waste and to protect marine life habitats. Various types of waste retrieved from the seabed were displayed in front of Gümüşlük Café and then taken to the First-Class Waste Collection Center in Konacık Neighborhood for recycling.

Deputy Mayor Yaşar Çelikkan stated that the municipality has been running this campaign continuously for ten years, cleaning the seas. Çelikkan remarked, "The main objective of this effort is to increase environmental awareness in our community and to create a sense of responsibility. We are seeing positive results. We are pleased to see a reduction in waste in some areas. This image reminds us once again that we are on the right track. We want to emphasize that the Sea deserves the most blue. The environment and nature are not inheritances but trusts. Let’s leave this trust to future generations as it deserves. Let’s work together to ensure the continuation of nature and life."

Supported by citizens, the Seabed Cleaning event will continue on Wednesday, July 3, at Gümbet Beach.
