UNDERWATER CLEANUP INITIATIVE AT KUMBAHÇE SHORELINE

"The Sea Deserves the Most Blue”: A Decade of Commitment to Sea Conservation


The annual Underwater Cleanup initiative, with the motto "The Sea Deserves the Most Blue”commenced its 10th edition at the Kumbahçe shoreline.

Initiated by the Municipality, the first phase of this year's cleanup took place in Kumbahçe Neighborhood. Participants, including Deputy Mayors Tanju Aksu and Yaşar Çelikkan, municipal council members, department heads, staff and volunteers, joined hands to extract various waste items from the sea, ranging from mobile phones to beach umbrellas.

Representing Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, Deputy Mayors Tanju Aksu and Yaşar Çelikkan, municipal council members, department heads, and staff, along with volunteers including students from Hüseyin Turgut Karabağlı Middle School and Atatürk Primary School, participated in the event. The initiative was coordinated by the Bodrum Municipality Support Services and Cleaning Services Directorate.

Deputy Mayor Tanju Aksu, reflecting on the event, noted that over 30 tons of waste had been collected in the past decade of such initiatives. He announced plans for cleanup efforts in thirteen different bays this year.

At the event's conclusion, the retrieved waste, totaling 250 kg, was displayed at Kumbahçe Square before being transported to the Recycling Center in Konacık Neighborhood for proper disposal.
