MANDARIN PURCHASES FROM LOCAL PRODUCERS CONTINUES
02.02.2024
The procurement of over 34 tons of Geographically Indicated Bodrum mandarins directly from local producers continues.
Through a collaborative effort between Bodrum Municipality's Agricultural Services Directorate and the Bodrum Agricultural Development Cooperative, mandarins are being sourced from local producers based on a cutting order system.
Since January 2024, a total of 41 different cutting programs involving 23 different local producers have resulted in the acquisition of 34.751 kg of Geographically Indicated Bodrum mandarins. Shipments have been organized on 9 different occasions to fulfill orders from Migros Türkiye's Aegean Region Warehouse.
Local Producers have received a total of 278 thousand Turkish Liras for their mandarins, with a procurement price of 8 Turkish Liras per kilogram for mandarins harvested from their own orchards.
As Bodrum Municipality continues its procurement from mandarin producers, the interest from traders in purchasing mandarins has increased, thereby improving the bargaining power of producers. This has alleviated past challenges faced by mandarin producers who were previously compelled to negotiate sales under unfavorable conditions in orchards.
