Bodrum Municipality partners with TARKO Agricultural Cooperative to Source Geographically Indicated Bodrum Mandarins from Local Producers

Bodrum Municipality, in collaboration with the S.S. Bodrum Agricultural Development Cooperative (TARKO), is actively engaging with local producers to bring the signature Bodrum mandarin to the forefront of consumer markets.

Addressing the needs of the local producers, agricultural engineers from Bodrum Municipality's Agricultural Services Directorate conduct thorough assessments of mandarin orchards. Following meticulous selection of disease-free, appropriately sized and retail-ready mandarins, the procurement process is initiated.

Fielding weekly orders, teams from Bodrum Municipality's Agricultural Services Directorate place empty crates in orchards, facilitating seamless collection post-harvest. Subsequently, the harvested mandarins undergo weighing by the Bodrum Agricultural Development Cooperative, marking the completion of the procurement.

The acquired Bodrum mandarins, proudly sporting a geographically indicated product label, are then dispatched to chain supermarkets for retail, offering consumers a taste of this distinctive regional delight.

Through this collaborative initiative, reaching mandarin orchards nationwide, orchard owners are reconnecting with the timeless joy of harvesting mandarins alongside their families and friends, rekindling the essence of communal spirit.

Moreover, marking a significant milestone in these ongoing efforts, the procurement of 20 thousand kilograms of green mandarins directly from producers has been successfully accomplished for the first time in the last decade.
