Municipality Procures Electric Wheelchairs for Individuals with Disabilities

Driven by the commitment to ease the lives of individuals with disabilities and enhance their social engagement, Bodrum Municipality acquired a total of 9 disability vehicles in the year 2023.

The Directorate of Culture and Social Affairs at Bodrum Municipality, dedicated to addressing the needs and requests of individuals with disabilities, continued its support throughout 2023. This encompassed not only maintenance, repair and parts support for faulty disability vehicles but also the delivery of 6 electric wheelchairs, 2 custom-made chairs and 1 electric scooter to individuals with disabilities.

Ongoing social support for individuals with disabilities

Bodrum Municipality offers accommodation services for citizens aged 65 and above with a disability report of fifty percent or more, those in need socially and economically, and those without a place to stay.

In 2023, municipal teams facilitated the transfer of a total of 574 individuals with disabilities and 511 bedridden citizens to healthcare facilities. Additionally, support in medical supplies was extended to individuals in need with disabilities and chronic illnesses.

Through a collaborative protocol between the Municipality and the Directorate of Public Education, decorative handicraft courses were provided to enhance the manual skills of individuals with disabilities. Courses supporting the personal development of intellectually disabled individuals were also conducted.

Mayor Ahmet Aras expressed his thoughts on the initiatives, stating:

"Our municipal teams work tirelessly to promptly address the needs of our disadvantaged citizens. We take proactive measures to enhance the social comfort of citizens in need. Guided by our populist and social democratic municipal approach, we stand by our citizens not just on special occasions but every day. As Bodrum Municipality, we shall persist in implementing projects that raise awareness."
