With its captivating azure waters, natural beauty and favorable winds, Bodrum has become an essential destination for sailing enthusiasts. Particularly, every October marks the beginning of national and international events, solidifying this period as Bodrum's prime sailing season.
In our district, weekend regattas are organized in collaboration with the Turkish Sailing Federation, Bodrum Municipality Bodrumspor, Era, Yalıkavak, Turgutreis and Bodrum Open Sea Sailing Clubs.
Yalıkavak hosts the Turkish Sailing Federation Sailing League Ilca 1st Leg regattas, while Bitez is home to the Sailing League 420-470-29'ER 1st Leg 2023 Turkey Championships. In the waters off Bodrum, the BAYK Autumn Trophy 1st Leg Sailing Races are taking place.
As the regattas continue with the support of Bodrum Municipality, preparations are also underway for the 11th Bodrum International Optimist Championship (BİOR). Young sailors, who continue their training off İçmeler-Karaada, will compete in this international event to achieve success.
Highlighting the centuries-old maritime culture in Bodrum, bearing the traces of the first female admiral Artemisia, Kızılhisarlı Mustafa Pasha, Cafer Pasha, and Admiral Turgut Reis, Mayor Ahmet Aras emphasized that the city has become a pioneer in sailing sports, especially in recent years. Mayor Aras stated, “Our professional and amateur clubs in our district have achieved outstanding success in recent years, which makes us proud. In our district surrounded by the sea on three sides, Bodrum has risen as a leader in sailing sports, hosting national and international events. Through these championships, which witness the participation of hundreds of sailors, we continue to elevate the name of Bodrum on the world stage. This year's 35th edition of The Bodrum Cup is a shining example of this.”
