The United Kingdom Ambassador, Jill Morris CMG and her delegation paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Ahmet Aras at his office.


In attendance during the meeting were United Kingdom Ambassador to Türkiye Jill Morris CMG, Ahmet Aras, Mayor of Bodrum; Bodrum Municipal Council Member-Coordinator Emel Çakaloğlu, Consul First Secretary Neale Jones MBE, Justice and Home Affairs Adviser Abigail Grove, Justice and Home Affairs, Counter-Terrorism Policy and Program Officer Johanne Lamirande, Counter-Terrorism Police Officer Alan Judd, United Kingdom Deputy Consul for the Muğla Region Nazlı Hamitoğlu and United Kingdom Honorary Consul in Bodrum Aslı Erbektaş.

Bodrum, at the level of Mediterranean tourism cities

The conversation started with Bodrum's cityscape, characterized by its white-colored houses and streets and progressed to discussions about the value these architectural features bring to the city, along with ongoing investments like the water purification facility. It was underscored that tourism statistics have been steadily improving post-pandemic, highlighting Bodrum as one of the exceptional tourism destinations in the Mediterranean basin, drawing comparisons to Mediterranean cities like St. Tropez and Cannes.

In addition to tourism, various projects are also supported

Bodrum offers a variety of experiences in terms of tourism, including historical, cultural, agricultural, conference and cruise tourism. It was mentioned that Bodrum is also becoming increasingly important in the field of yacht production in the Mediterranean basin with significant developments occurring in both modern and traditional yacht manufacturing.

Mayor Aras mentioned that besides tourism, they are implementing various projects, supporting agricultural projects to improve the quality and sustainability of agricultural activities in Bodrum, such as soilless agriculture.

Cultural interaction and friendship-enhancing activities were discussed during the meeting, including Bodrum's relations with the neighboring Greek islands and joint events and projects like the Leros Peace Festival and Kos & Bodrum Friendship Concert.

Over 4 million visitors expected in Türkiye in 2024

During the meeting, Ambassador Jill Morris CMG noted that tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom to Türkiye have been increasing year by year after the pandemic and expressed the expectation that in 2024, it is highly likely that more than 4 million visitors will come to Türkiye.
