FRIENDSHIP CONCERT FEATURING KOS & BODRUM
23.08.2023
A collaborative effort between Bodrum Municipality and Kos Municipality is set to bring forth a series of concert events aimed at fostering messages of friendship and solidarity.
With the goal of enhancing the already strong ties between Bodrum and Kos, the 'Songs of Our Lands' Kos Bodrum Friendship Concert will be held on both sides. The first leg of the concert series is scheduled to take place at 8:30 PM on Friday, August 25th, in Kos Peace Square. The concert will showcase a repertoire of Turkish and Greek songs, conveying messages of goodwill.
The event will see the participation of both Ahmet Aras, the Mayor of Bodurm and Theodosis Nikitaras, the Mayor of Kos. Notably, the concert will feature a rendition of the song 'Across the Bosphorus, the narrows,' performed by local artists Didem Kasal Esentürk from Bodrum and Lefteris Stefanopoulos from Kos. This song is known to have served as an anthem symbolizing Greek-Turkish friendship and is expected to resonate deeply with the audience for many years in Greece. The programme will also include a visual montage incorporating scenes from Bodrum and Kos.
Reflecting on the Bodrum and Kos Friendship Concerts, Mayor Aras of Bodrum expressed:
"For 3,500 years, Bodrum has been recognized as a city of tolerance, happiness, and brotherhood. In our ongoing effort to strengthen and nurture relationships with our friends across the coast, we have orchestrated numerous events. We maintain continuous communication with the municipalities of Leros and Kos. We aim to culminate the visits we've exchanged for mutual tourism and cultural enrichment with this remarkable event. Following the concert scheduled for August 25th in Kos, we will also host an event in Bodrum on September 15th. Through this, we seek to ensure the continuity of our relations and firmly establish our friendship on a solid foundation."
Mayor Nikitaras of Kos shared his perspective: "The cordial relations between Bodrum and Kos municipalities, as well as their citizens, have been repeatedly substantiated. The consistent reciprocal visits, contributing positively to tourism and cultural exchange, have yielded positive impacts on these relations. We hold the belief that with collaborative initiatives, we can further fortify these relations."
