REHABILITATION OF WILDLIFE AT THE MUNICIPAL ANIMAL SHELTER
The Torba Temporary Animal Shelter, affiliated to the Bodrum Municipality, is now playing host to an injured chameleon.
Discovered in a wounded situation on Deniz Street within the Ortakent District and subsequently handed over to the authorities of the Torba Temporary Animal Shelter by concerned citizens, the chameleon is now receiving medical attention.
Veterinarian Kubilay Cici from the shelter stated, “We immediately started treatment and conducted the initial examination of the chameleon that a citizen found by the roadside, with bleeding on its face and eyes. We determined that the bleeding originated from its eye, cleaned the area, and started antibiotic treatment. This Mediterranean chameleon, which is female, is quite common in this region. We are monitoring the chameleon's treatment. We will continue treatment for another week and assess its condition.”
In addition, it was reported that other animals currently undergoing treatment include a seagull with fishing line entangled around its wing, a weakened baby dove, a hawk with a fractured talon and a tortoise with shell fractures. These animals were brought to the shelter by officials this week. Following comprehensive health assessments, the animals will be handed over to the Milas Nature Conservation and National Parks Authority subsequent to their examination and treatment.
Mayor Aras, while discussing the municipality's endeavors pertaining to stray animals, stated:
“Our Veterinary Services Directorate is diligently working to provide care and treatment to all creatures, both strays and those found in the wild, within the constraints of the municipality's jurisdiction. Going forward, in collaboration with our veterinary professionals, we are committed to meticulously ensuring the provision of care, health evaluations, and treatments for all creatures, while staunchly advocating for their inherent rights to inhabit their natural environments.”
