URGENT APPEAL FOR A CLEAN BODRUM
11.08.2023
MUNICIPALITY CALLS FOR AWARENESS
Bodrum Municipality's Cleaning Affairs Directorate, engaged in environmental sanitation efforts, recently conducted inspections around garbage containers in Bodrum Torba Port, uncovering various types of litter.
As part of the ongoing citywide cleanup initiatives, inspections were carried out at Torba Port, where a total of 2 underground and 2 above-ground garbage containers are located. The inspections revealed that all the waste had been left in front of the containers. The teams quickly tidied up the area and emphasized that disposing of waste on the ground, rather than in the designated containers, poses a health hazard.
Officials from the Cleaning Affairs Directorate urged residents to observe waste collection days and to refrain from disposing of trash outside the designated containers. Their message underlined the significance of maintaining a clean and well-presented city environment. They also called upon citizens to embrace environmental awareness.
Despite the summer heat, the Cleaning Affairs Directorate teams are unwavering in their commitment to preserving a clean Bodrum. Highlighting the necessity for Bodrum residents to adhere to environmental regulations, officials stressed that citizens' cooperation in following waste disposal guidelines would facilitate the efficient execution of the Cleaning Department's tasks, ultimately contributing to a cleaner environment.
Throughout the day, the teams encounter various waste materials along roadsides and in public spaces across all neighborhoods of Bodrum. The surge in waste, especially during the summer months due to increased population, presents an additional challenge for the department's workforce.
"Incompatible with Bodrum's Aesthetics"
While determined efforts continue both on land and at sea to maintain cleanliness, Mayor Aras underscored that such scenes are unsuitable for Bodrum and emphasized potential health risks associated with the combination of hot weather and unsanitary conditions. He remarked, "While we are tirelessly striving to keep Bodrum pristine, the practice of discarding waste outside designated containers by some residents is impeding the efforts of our municipal teams. Such situations lead to inefficiencies in terms of human resources and time. I urge those responsible for such actions, which compromise both the environment and Bodrum's urban fabric, to show greater consideration."
Uninterrupted Progress
In addition to the ongoing cleaning activities such as washing, sweeping, district maintenance, waste bagging and garbage collection, Bodrum Municipality's Cleaning Affairs Directorate is actively engaged in tasks like cleaning storefronts, beaches and walkways. This comprehensive approach also includes the replacement and emptying of garbage container covers.
Waste Collection and Segregation Days
Adhering to the "Waste Collection and Segregation Days" schedule, Bodrum Municipality's Cleaning Affairs Directorate allocates one day per week in each neighborhood for the collection of garden waste, discarded items and plastic, metal, paper and glass waste. Residents are encouraged to place waste outside the night before collection. Additionally, used cooking oil is to be disposed of at the designated "Waste Collection Center."
