MUNICIPAL CONSTRUCTION INSPECTIONS CONTINUE

MUNICIPAL POLICE IMPOSED SANCTIONS ON 293 CONSTRUCTION SITES

Under the construction bans that began on May 15, Bodrum Municipality continues its inspections and enforcement with meticulousness.

In the Aegean region where tourism activities are intense, Bodrum Municipal Police Department continues its inspections and enforcement within the scope of the prohibitions on construction activities carried out with heavy machinery, implemented between May 15 and October 15, according to the circular numbered 03 and dated March 10, 2015, issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

In accordance with the letter dated May 4, 2023, and numbered 3746574, from the Investment and Operations Department of Muğla Provincial Directorate of Culture & Tourism, necessary precautions were requested for construction activities in Bodrum that have negative effects such as noise, unsightly appearance, and environmental pollution caused by heavy transport, excavation, and mortar construction. In line with this request, the teams immediately started their work and imposed sanctions on 293 companies that were found to be working improperly and not complying with the construction regulations, applying fines under the Administrative Offenses Law.

In addition to routine inspections, the Municipal Police Department evaluates complaints received from citizens and will continue to seal the constructions of companies that violate the ban, do not comply with the rules, and do not suspend their activities.

Ineffective Penalties

Having repeatedly emphasized the need to increase the fines to make them more deterrent, Ahmet Aras, the Mayor of Bodrum, stated that despite the sealing operations carried out by the teams following their inspections, some companies persistently continue their rough construction activities and the municipal teams conduct strict inspections within their authorities.
