THE FIGHT AGAINST ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES WITH DETERMINATION IN BODRUM

The fight against illegal construction, which has been ongoing throughout the district since 2019, is being carried out by Ahmet Aras, the Mayor of Bodrum.

Within the scope of the campaign against illegal construction launched in 2019, 796 structures have been demolished to date and 4,084 structures have been sealed. Illegal structures that have completed the legal process have been demolished according to the designated plan, while many property owners who complied with the notifications have taken care of the demolitions themselves.

All legal procedures related to illegal construction (detection of the illeagal contructions, sealing, high fines, demolition decisions, criminal complaints, demolition) are meticulously implemented by the Municipal Directorate of Building Control, in order to prevent unlicensed and illegal construction. To prevent unlicensed and illegal construction, Bodrum Municipality has recently notified concrete companies in the district that they should not provide concrete to unlicensed construction sites.

Most recently, the municipal teams of the Directorate of Building Control demolished two of the six blocks illegally built without a permit within the "area to be preserved for its natural texture" in the Kemer area of Ortakent district.

During the demolition of illegal and unlicensed structures, whose detection, sealing, and legal procedures have been completed by municipal teams, the managers running the construction tried to hinder the municipal teams and went to the main Municipal Service Building to continue their protests.

Stating that the works shall continue with determination to prevent illegal construction, Ahmet Aras, the Mayor of Bodrum said, "We are working with all our might to prevent the distortions caused by the increasing illegal construction activities of an zoning amnesty, especially in the last year. In addition, illegal construction is encouraged by the illegal partitioning and sale of agricultural areas that are to be preserved for their natural character as cooperative shares. As the Municipality, we shall continue to work for Bodrum within the framework of the current laws.
