THE 2022 WORLD OPTIMIST CHAMPIONSHIP HAS COME TO AN END
The 2022 Arkas World Optimist Championship held in Bodrum has come to an end with the award ceremony held in Bodrum Castle Northern Moat. Having taken the lead in female category, our national athlete Medine Havva Tatlıcan won the gold medal for the first time for Türkiye in ‘World Optimist Championships’.

The 2022 Arkas World Optimist Championship, hosted by Bodrum Municipality Bodrumspor Sailing Club, with the supports of Bodrum Municipality, in cooperation with the IODA International Optimist Class Association and the Turkish Sailing Federation has come to an end.

The Governer of Muğla, Orhan Tavlı; the General Director of Sports Services, Mehmet Baykan; the Governer of Bodrum, Bilgehan Bayar; the Mayor of Bodrum, Ahmet Aras; the Deputy Mayor of Bodrum, İlknur Ülküm Seferoğlu; the President of the Turkish Sailing Federation, Özlem Akdurak; Coast Guard Southern Aegean Group Commander Lieutenant Colonel Süleyman Ercan; the President of IODA, Kevin Whitcraft; The President of Bodrumspor Club, Rıza Karakaya, the sportspeople, trainers and numerous sports lovers attended the award ceremony, held in Bodrum Castle Northern Moat.

During the ceremony, the athletes, who ranked in different age categories, team races and general classification races were presented their trophies. Thai sailor Weka Bhanubandh led the general classification rankings, the american athlete James Pine came in second and the italian athlete Francesco Carrieri came in third in classification rankings.The Team of U.S.A. came in first in team races, the Team of Ukraine came in second and the Team of Sweeden came in third.Our national team ended up with a 4th place finish in the team races.

Historic Succes From Medine Havva Tatlıcan

Our national athlete, Medine Havva Tatlıcan, achieved an unprecedented success for our country with the gold medal she was awarded. The athlete of Fenerbahçe Doğuş Sailing Branch, Tatlıcan surpassed his competitors in the girls category and won the first gold medal for Turkey in the history of the World Optimist Championships. In the girls category, Chrysoula Kanellou Kokkinaki from Greece came in second and Joana Freitas from Brazil came in third.
