BODRUM’S FIRST “GATEWAY TO THE BLUE” INSTALLED IN KUMBAHCE

Bodrum Municipality has completed the first stage of its “Gateway to the Blue” project on Kumbahçe coast.
The project aims to create symbolic photo points across the district through blue gates reflecting Bodrum’s coastal identity, cultural character and natural scenery.
The first installation was carried out in Kumbahçe Neighbourhood, at a point overlooking Bodrum Castle. The project was coordinated by the Support Services Directorate in cooperation with the Women and Family Services Directorate and the Parks and Gardens Directorate.
The gates, wooden arches and decorative elements were produced by municipal teams at the Support Services Directorate’s Yalıkavak workshops. After production, the pieces were given artistic details at the Gümbet Course Centre.
Local artists Saadet Çakıroğlu, Süheyla Akman and Ümit Gönenç contributed designs inspired by Bodrum’s cultural texture. Meryem Sebile Gündüz, a 19-year-old Bodrum resident, carried out painting and decorative lettering on the gates, while trainees from the municipality’s knitting group added handmade Bodrum tangerine and lemon decorations.
Following installation by municipal teams, final landscaping works, including bougainvillaea arrangements, were completed by the Parks and Gardens Directorate.
The “Gateway to the Blue” has already attracted interest from residents and visitors as a new photo point. Bodrum Municipality plans to expand the project to other neighbourhoods in the coming period.
