DISASTER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN BEGINS ACROSS BODRUM
06.07.2026
Bodrum Municipality has launched a comprehensive public information campaign under the slogan “Be Prepared, Stay Safe” to raise awareness of disasters and strengthen residents’ level of preparedness.
The campaign, carried out by Bodrum Municipality’s Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Directorate, provides guidance on the measures to be taken before, during and after natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. Digital content, posters and brochures prepared for the municipality’s website aim to make practical disaster preparedness information more accessible to residents.
As part of the campaign, residents are encouraged to prepare a Family Disaster and Emergency Plan. The guidance highlights the importance of identifying meeting points in advance, preparing emergency contact cards and ensuring that all family members are familiar with the plan. Residents are also reminded that every household should keep a disaster and emergency kit ready.
The campaign also introduces the “Hazard Hunt” approach, which helps households identify and reduce risks before a disaster occurs. Residents are advised to secure furniture and items that could fall or tip over during an earthquake, and to ensure that all family members know where electricity and natural gas valves are located and how to turn them off safely when needed.
The materials also emphasise the importance of correct behaviour during a disaster, including the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” response during an earthquake. Information is also provided on precautions to take against flood and overflow risks.
Through QR codes included on the campaign posters and brochures, residents can easily view the nearest Emergency Assembly Areas on a map. The same system also provides access to detailed information on the Hazard Hunt application.
Bodrum Municipality has invited all residents to take the necessary precautions without delay and to be prepared for possible disasters. Further information is available via the municipality’s website and the 444 00 48 Call Centre.
