Bodrum Municipality’s seabed clean-up campaign, carried out to draw attention to the protection of the seas, continued in Gümüşlük Neighbourhood.

Held for the past 12 years under the motto “Blue Suits the Sea Best”, the campaign is carried out each week in a different neighbourhood. This week’s stage took place in Gümüşlük, with the participation of Municipal Council Members Candan Topdemir and İlknur Ülküm Seferoğlu on behalf of Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, as well as municipal staff, volunteers and residents.

As part of the seabed clean-up event, a volunteer diving team made up of municipal personnel worked together with the Green Rangers volunteer diving team to clean the seabed in Gümüşlük Bay. Approximately 250 kilograms of waste was removed from the sea during the operation. The collected waste included single-use glass and plastic bottles, metal pieces, fishing equipment and various other discarded materials, while a solar panel retrieved from the seabed also drew attention.

The waste was displayed on Gümüşlük beach in order to raise environmental awareness before being taken to the Class 1 Waste Collection Centre in Konacık Neighbourhood.

Organised to contribute to the protection of the seas and increase environmental awareness, the seabed clean-up campaign will continue in Gümbet Neighbourhood on Wednesday, 1 July.
