Bodrum Municipality Removes 260 Kilograms of Waste from Turgutreis Seabed
“Blue Suits the Sea Best” Campaign Continues in Turgutreis
Bodrum Municipality’s seabed clean-up campaign, carried out to draw attention to the protection of the seas, continued in Turgutreis.
Held for the past 12 years under the motto “Blue Suits the Sea Best”, the campaign is carried out each week in a different neighbourhood. This week’s stage took place in Turgutreis, with the participation of Municipal Council Member Tayyar Gündoğan, Bahçelievler Neighbourhood Head Fatma Akalan, Turgutreis Neighbourhood Head Hasan Gökhan Satılmış, municipal staff, volunteers and residents.
During the clean-up carried out by a volunteer diving team made up of municipal personnel, approximately 260 kilograms of waste was removed from the sea. The collected waste included glass and plastic bottles, metal pieces, fishing equipment and various other discarded materials.
The waste removed from the seabed was displayed on Turgutreis beach in order to raise environmental awareness, before being taken to the Class 1 Waste Collection Centre in Konacık Neighbourhood.
The next stage of the seabed clean-up campaign will be held in Gümüşlük on Wednesday, 24 June.
