BODRUM COMES TOGETHER FOR TÜRKIYE’S OPENING WORLD CUP MATCH

Türkiye’s national football team’s opening match against Australia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup was watched with great excitement and enthusiasm by residents who gathered in Bodrum Municipality Square, where the match was shown on a large outdoor screen.
Residents came together in front of the screen set up by Bodrum Municipality from the early hours of the morning, sharing in the World Cup excitement of the Crescent-Stars.
Mayor Tamer Mandalinci also watched the match alongside residents. He was accompanied by Deputy Mayors Kanat Özsert and Tolga Karademir. Speaking with citizens who filled the square, Mayor Mandalinci shared the national excitement with the people of Bodrum.
The event in Bodrum Municipality Square brought feelings of unity and solidarity to the fore, as residents followed Türkiye’s first match in its World Cup campaign together. The large crowd and the lively atmosphere created colourful scenes throughout the screening.
Although Türkiye’s national team was praised for its determination and periods of effective play during the match, it left the pitch with a 2–0 defeat. Following the final whistle, a brief silence fell over the square. Residents left the area with the shared joy of experiencing the World Cup atmosphere together, alongside the disappointment of the result.
It was stated that the large screen set up by Bodrum Municipality will continue to bring residents together around the national team’s upcoming World Cup matches.
