A public awareness programme was held in Bodrum as part of Disability Awareness Week, observed between 10 and 16 May, under the coordination of the Bodrum District Directorate of National Education.

The event was attended by Bodrum District Governor Ali Sırmalı, Deputy Mayor Tanju Aksu, members of the district protocol, representatives of political parties and civil society organisations, teachers, students and local residents.

The programme began with a cortege march from the former coach station to İskele (Barış) Square, drawing public interest along the route. Awareness activities then continued in the square.


The main stage programme was prepared by Yahşi Special Education Practice School and Şehit Serkan Göker Primary School, with special education pupils performing dance routines and stage presentations that received warm applause from the audience.

Students from Kerem Aydınlar Secondary School, Private Bodrum Uğur College, Begonvil Rehabilitation Centre of the Health Foundation, the Public Education Centre, Mumcular Fuat Erten Secondary School, Mahinur Cemal Uslu Secondary School and Hüseyin Boyacı Primary School also took part with a range of performances.

In addition, stalls were set up in the square by parent-teacher associations and the Bodrum Health Foundation, where products prepared by students were displayed and offered for sale. The stands also attracted strong interest from visitors.

Throughout the programme, attention was drawn to the importance of making disabled people more visible in social life and of strengthening public awareness. The event concluded with stage performances.
