Bodrum Municipality has launched this year’s first stage of its long-running seabed clean-up campaign in Kumbahçe neighbourhood.

Organised for the past 12 years under the slogan “Nothing Suits the Sea Better Than Blue”, the clean-up was carried out with the participation of Acting Director of Support Services Şevki Avcılar, Kumbahçe Neighbourhood Head Zehra Bilgin, relevant municipal staff and a volunteer diving team made up of municipal personnel.

The event was organised in cooperation between the Directorate of Support Services and the Directorate of Cleaning Services, with a total of 228 kilograms of waste removed from the seabed.
Among the items recovered were plastic buckets, glass bottles, chairs and frying pans. Şevki Avcılar said the work would continue in the coming weeks.

At the end of the event, the waste was displayed in Kumbahçe Square before being taken to the Category 1 Waste Collection Centre in Konacık neighbourhood for recycling.

The seabed clean-up campaign, organised to draw attention to marine pollution and raise public awareness, will continue in Yalıkavak on Wednesday 13 May.
