Bodrum Municipality has begun a comprehensive spring cleaning operation at the Ancient Halikarnassos Walls ahead of Tourism Week, which will be marked by events organised in cooperation with the Bodrum District Governor’s Office and Bodrum Municipality between 15 and 22 April.

Preparations followed a coordination meeting chaired by Bodrum District Governor Ali Sırmalı. Subsequent site inspections were carried out with the participation of Bodrum Deputy Mayor Kanat Hasan Özsert, Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology Director Hande Savaş, Bodrum District Tourism Information Office Director Özcan Canbaz, Academia Foundation President Özay Kartal, and Bodrum Municipality Director of Parks and Gardens Benian Bilgi.

Following these inspections, teams from the Directorate of Parks and Gardens began extensive cleaning works at the historic site.

The works are being carried out at the first section of the Ancient Halikarnassos Walls, which was opened to tourism following rescue excavations launched in 2020 through cooperation between Bodrum Municipality and the Academia Foundation, with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and under the supervision of the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology.

As part of the preparations, teams are cutting grass along the walking routes, on the walls themselves and around the surrounding pathways, while also carrying out pruning work on trees and shrubs.

The works began on the Bardakçı side of the walls and are planned to continue through to Myndos Gate.
