1,500 SAPLINGS PLANTED TO RESTORE FIRE-DAMAGED MEMORIAL FOREST IN BODRUM

Bodrum Municipality organised a tree planting event during 21–26 March Forest Week to help restore the Ali Kelle Memorial Forest, which was damaged in the August 2023 wildfire.


The event took place in Müskebi neighbourhood under the coordination of the municipality’s Directorate of Parks and Gardens and Directorate of Agricultural Services. Held across an area of around 120,000 square metres, the programme was attended by Deputy Mayor Ercan Pehlivan, volunteers from the Fresh Bodrum initiative, 340 students from Bodrum Bahçeşehir College, Atatürk Primary School and Bodrum English Culture College, as well as 30 municipal staff members.

As part of the reforestation effort, 1,500 saplingsof black cypress, Cyprus acacia and stone pine were planted to support the ecological restoration of the area.

Ali Kelle, after whom the memorial forest is named and who had called for the area to be replanted after the fire, also attended the event and thanked Bodrum Municipality and everyone involved.
