Bodrum Municipality organised an awareness event for primary school pupils as part of Forest Week, in cooperation with the TEMA Foundation and the Mis Gibi 1 Bodrum initiative, a local environmental initiative.

The programme was held at the Herodotus Cultural Centre and was attended by Year 4 pupils from different schools across the district. Bodrum Deputy Mayor Ercan Pehlivan also took part. The event began with a moment of silence followed by the Turkish National Anthem.

The programme continued with songs performed by the Mis Gibi 1 Bodrum children’s choir. During the event, TEMA Foundation volunteer Haluk Ortaç gave an engaging presentation for pupils on the importance of forests, the effects of global warming, measures that can be taken, and the issue of erosion and efforts to combat it.

A presentation titled “The Journey of a Seed” was also delivered by Agricultural Engineer Şeyda Şenyıldız and Organic Farming Technician Tayfun İlme from Bodrum Municipality’s Directorate of Agricultural Services. The session explained the seed production process and introduced the work carried out at the municipality’s Agricultural R&D and Local Seed Centre.

At the end of the event, stock seedlings grown in the municipal greenhouses and acorns collected by Mis Gibi 1 Bodrum volunteers were planted in pots and given to pupils.
