BODRUM MARKS 18 MARCH ÇANAKKALE VICTORY AND MARTYRS’ REMEMBRANCE DAY

A series of events was held in Bodrum to mark the 111th anniversary of 18 March Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs’ Remembrance Day. As part of the programme, Bodrum Municipality visited the families of martyrs living in the district, while an evening iftar brought together veterans, relatives of martyrs and members of the district protocol.
Teams from Bodrum Municipality’s Martyrs’ Families and Veterans Services Office and Field Solutions teamsvisited 17 martyrs’ families, listened to their requests and conveyed the greetings and gratitude of Mayor Tamer Mandalinci.
An iftar programme held on the evening of Tuesday 17 March was attended by Bodrum District Governor Ali Sırmalı, Bodrum Garrison Commander Personnel Colonel Ayhan Ulutaş, Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, district officials, representatives of political parties and civil society organisations, and around 150 veterans and relatives of martyrs.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and prayers for the fallen, followed by a sema performance by the İzmir Meşk Whirling Dervish Group and a musical recital by Neyzen Gökberk Avcı and Kudümzen Talha Kuşçuoğlu of the Ege University State Turkish Music Conservatory.
In his address, Mayor Tamer Mandalinci said he was honoured to be together with veterans and the families of martyrs and commemorated all heroes, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, with gratitude and respect. District Governor Ali Sırmalı also thanked the municipality for bringing participants together on the occasion.
As part of the day’s programme, an official ceremony organised by the Bodrum District Governor’s Office was held in front of the Atatürk Statue in Belediye Square, before commemorations continued at the Bodrum Municipality Herodotus Cultural Centre.
