07.03.2026
As part of Earthquake Awareness Week (1–7 March), earthquake drills were carried out at Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Anatolian High School and Mumcular Fuat Erten Primary School by teams from Bodrum Municipality, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Bodrum Fire Brigade Group Command, the District Directorate of National Education, and UMKE.
The Municipality stated the drills were organised under the coordination of the District Directorate of National Education and Bodrum Municipality’s Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Directorate to increase disaster awareness, strengthen response capacity and improve coordination between institutions.
The exercise included scenarios such as identifying hazards within the school, the recommended actions during an earthquake (“Drop, cover, hold on”), safe evacuation, and the rescue and first response for injured people.
Bodrum Municipality’s Search and Rescue Team (SAR) played an active role in the drills, providing practical guidance on what to do during an earthquake and introducing the team’s vehicles and equipment. Students and teachers also had the opportunity to experience the evacuation process.
The work carried out during Earthquake Awareness Week aims to build public awareness and preparedness in the event of a possible earthquake.
