JOINT AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON SUBSTANCE ADDICTION HELD IN BODRUM

Bodrum Municipality held a public awareness event as part of its work to tackle substance addiction.
The programme took place at the Nurol Cultural Centre and was organised by Bodrum Municipality’s Women and Family Services Directorate, in cooperation with the Bodrum District Police Department – Narcotics Crime Unitand the Muğla Bar Association – Bodrum District Representative Office. The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Tanju Aksu, representing Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, alongside Gözde Çakıroğlu (Director of Women and Family Services) and local residents.
Delivered under the title “Bodrum Awareness Programme in the Fight Against Substance Addiction”, the free event was open to the public and aimed at adults. It focused on strengthening public awareness and informing families.
Speakers included Police Officer Neriman Yılmaz, who delivered a presentation titled “The Best Narcotics Officer is a Mother” and highlighted the importance of early awareness and parental oversight. Lawyer Onursal Özbek, the district representative of the Muğla Bar Association, spoke on “Is an Individual with Addiction Only a Case Number?”, addressing legal aspects and the need for a people-centred approach. Seher Akbaş, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, shared guidance for parents on substance use among children and adolescents, including early warning signs, risk factors and communication.
The programme also underlined the importance of inter-agency cooperation and concluded with a question-and-answer session.
