BODRUM MANDARIN NOW REACHING CONSUMERS ACROSS TÜRKIYE
21.01.2026
New sales and distribution strategies developed by Bodrum Municipality and its municipal company, Belediye Inc., are enabling the Bodrum mandarin to reach consumers across Türkiye.
Coordinated by the Directorate of Agricultural Services, the initiative supports local producers while ensuring that the geographically indicated Bodrum mandarin is delivered directly to consumers. Under the programme, mandarins are prepared in 5 kg and 10 kg packages and shipped nationwide via a contracted courier service. Each parcel includes personalised messages, and preparations for new orders are ongoing.
Single Shipment of 50 Tonnes
As part of another major operation to support growers, 50 tonnes of Bodrum mandarins are being transported to Mersin. The shipment consists of produce sourced from 18 growers in Bahçelievler, Turgutreis, Müskebi, Dereköy and Bitez, with the logistics process overseen by municipal teams.
During the orange harvest period —attended by Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, who regularly emphasises the mandarin’s cultural and economic significance— the municipality purchased 69 tonnes of mandarins from 34 producers across 63 separate collection rounds. Purchases continue without interruption.
Mayor Mandalinci stated that the municipality remains committed to preserving and strengthening Bodrum’s mandarin heritage. He noted that earlier in the season, 72 producers had benefitted from purchases of Green Bodrum Mandarins, and that new strategies are now connecting the fruit with consumers nationwide. He encouraged producers to continue protecting their orchards, assuring them of ongoing municipal support.
Producers Welcome Municipal Support
Growers participating in the 50-tonne shipment expressed their satisfaction with the programme.
Students Learn About Bodrum Mandarin at the Application Garden
Aiming to ensure that the Bodrum mandarin becomes a product valued not only today but also by future generations, the Directorate of Agricultural Services has extended its awareness activities into education. Students visiting the application garden in Bitez learn about the mandarin’s history, production and harvesting, and experience picking fruit directly from the trees.
Green Mandarin Purchases Also Supported Growers
During the Green Bodrum Mandarin period, the municipality purchased 70 tonnes of produce from 72 growers. These mandarins were likewise delivered to consumers across Türkiye under the coordination of the Directorate of Agricultural Services.
