15.01.2026
Bodrum Municipality has officially opened three completed projects, the Yalıkavak Covered Market Place and Social Activity Area, the Dirmil Market Place and Social Activity Area and the Abacıoğlu Tennis Court and Basketball Court, at a collective inauguration ceremony attended by a large number of residents and guests.
Music & Folk Dances Opened the Ceremony
The programme began with a musical performance by Büşra Çin and her orchestra, followed by a folk dance show presented by the Bodrum Yoruk Obası Association, creating a lively atmosphere. After a moment of silence and the National Anthem, congratulatory messages from guests unable to attend were read.
Benefactor Erdal Abacıoğlu emphasised the importance of supporting young people, the entrusted legacy of Atatürk, and noted his satisfaction in contributing to the construction of the new tennis and basketball courts.
Mayor Tamer Mandalinci expressed his satisfaction at delivering long-awaited projects. He shared details of the Yalıkavak facility, which includes a 10,700 m² construction area, a 5-decare footprint, a 250-vehicle car park, commercial units, a bridal room, kitchen, municipal police point, technical rooms and storage areas. He noted that the complex will serve not only as a market but also as a 24/7 social space for community activities and shared use.
Mandalinci stated that the Dirmil Market Place and Social Activity Area, developed in collaboration with local neighbourhood representatives and benefactors, was also being opened as part of the ceremony.
Mandalinci also highlighted the Erdal–Öznur Abacıoğlu Sports Facilities and Children’s Park, developed by municipal departments with contributions from benefactors, noting that it too formed part of the day’s collective inauguration.
Mayor Mandalinci: Goal for 2026 is Fully Covered, Modern Market Spaces
Reviewing municipal work, Mayor Mandalinci stated that 2025 had been a productive year and noted that no neighbourhood would be left with open, uncovered market areas in major community hubs. He announced plans to lay the foundation for the Gümüşlük Market Place in early 2026, and emphasised that the municipality would continue its work at full pace with all departments.
He thanked all residents who trusted and supported municipal efforts, wishing the collective inauguration “to be beneficial and auspicious”.
Mayor Aras: Full Support for Bodrum
Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras provided information on infrastructure, superstructure and water management investments in Bodrum. He highlighted Mayor Mandalinci’s leadership, describing him as young, dynamic and determined, and stated that the Metropolitan Municipality stood fully behind the work carried out in Bodrum. Aras noted the greater personnel and budgetary capacity of the Metropolitan Municipality, affirming that both institutions would continue serving Bodrum collaboratively.

At the end of the programme, plaques of appreciation were presented to benefactors Erdal and Öznur Abacıoğlu, Ahmet Alparslan and Kıyasettin Demir for their contributions. The ceremony concluded with the cutting of the ribbon marking the official opening of the projects.
