The latest stage of Bodrum Municipality’s Cultural Trekking Tours programme took place on the Küdür Peninsula, bringing together residents and visitors to explore the area’s rich historical and natural heritage.

Organised by the Directorate of Culture and Social Affairs, the tour offered participants a guided walk through the peninsula’s landscape and past. Along the route, archaeologist Serap Topaloğlu provided detailed information on the region’s historical background and archaeological remains.

The event attracted significant public interest, with approximately 300 participants taking part. Attendees included Bodrum Municipal Council Members Ali Diken and Hüseyin Sağkal, Yalıkavak Neighbourhood Head Ali Çınar, and professional tour guides.

The walk began at the Alacain rock-cut tombs and continued through agricultural terraces, workshops and farmhouse structures that reflect the area’s rural character and ancient trade connections. The route extended to Piyamlık Harbour, named after the piyam plant, examples of which were introduced to participants along the way. Umay Karabaş, spokesperson for the Küdür Platform, also shared information on the peninsula’s biological diversity.

During the tour, emphasis was placed on the importance of the Küdür Peninsula’s designation as a protected archaeological and natural site, highlighting how its geology, archaeology, flora and fauna have been preserved to the present day.

The programme concluded with a picnic at Alacain Public Beach, where participants enjoyed refreshments provided by the municipality and expressed their appreciation for the event.
