PUBLIC SPACES CLEARED OF ILLEGAL OCCUPATION IN BODRUM
21.11.2025
Officials warn that pavements are public walkways, not extensions of commercial premises.
Bodrum Municipality has stepped up inspections to clear pavements and public parking areas of illegal obstructions after receiving numerous citizen complaints. Municipal Police (Zabıta) teams removed cones, menu boards, advertising signs, tables and chairs that had been placed outside businesses, narrowing pedestrian walkways despite prior warnings and penalties.
The first phase of operations focused on central high-traffic streets, including Atatürk, Cevat Şakir, Neyzen Tevfik and Cafer Paşa Avenues, as well as part of Turgutreis Avenue. Traffic Enforcement units supported the effort, and fines were issued to vehicles parked on pavements.
Zabıta Inspector Serap Kara stressed that pavements are public spaces and cannot be occupied under any circumstances, noting that blocking walkways disrupts both mobility and the shared urban environment.
