MAJOR SPORTS INVESTMENTS ADVANCE ACROSS BODRUM’S NEIGHBOURHOODS

Bodrum Municipality continues to expand its investment in sports facilities across the district, constructing new recreational areas while modernising existing ones. Significant progress has been made in projects in the neighbourhoods of Çiftlik, Mazı, Yalıkavak and Gündoğan, with several nearing completion.

Driven by Mayor Tamer Mandalinci’s goal of making sports more accessible and strengthening local sports infrastructure, the Directorate of Civil Works has intensified its efforts. The projects include both the construction of new sports areas and the full refurbishment of ageing facilities.

New and Renewed Facilities Across the District

In Çiftlik and Mazı, construction of new astroturf football pitches — among Mayor Mandalinci’s earlier commitments — has reached the final stage. Once landscaping works are completed, both facilities will be opened to the public. In Gümüşlük, extensive renovation of the existing astroturf field has been finalised.

In Yalıkavak, a major sports and recreation project on a 6,912 m² municipal plot is nearing completion, funded partly through donations. The development includes a tennis court, a basketball court and a 435 m² parking area adjacent to the Yalıkavak Bridge Sports Club. A decorative walking path exceeding 2,000 m² and a dual-lane access road have also been completed under the supervision of the Civil Works Directorate.

Serbay Ilıcak Culture and Sports Centre to Open on 21 November

The fully refurbished Serbay Ilıcak Sports and Culture Complex in Gündoğan will reopen on Friday, 21 November at 16:00. All systems — including flooring, ventilation, lighting and CCTV — have been upgraded.

The spectator level features a fitness room, cardio area, stands, an accessible viewing area and dual-use basketball and volleyball court. The sports floor includes modern changing rooms, referee and coach rooms, a first-aid room and administrative offices. Additional amenities include a table-tennis section, yoga room and an outdoor activity square.

High Demand at Binnaz Karakaya Facilities

The renovated Binnaz Karakaya Fitness Centre has been met with strong public interest, with free yoga classes attracting high participation. Free pilates sessions will begin soon. The renewed Binnaz Karakaya Swimming Pool, one of the early priorities of Mayor Mandalinci’s term, is now serving both sports clubs and individual swimmers.

Turgutreis Gains Colour with New Paths

Following the completion of infrastructure works by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, the upper structure of Turgutreis Gazi Mustafa Kemal Boulevard has also been renewed. The 2,900-metre cycling and running path, opened in August, has been coated with environmentally friendly paints by Bodrum Municipality’s Public Works teams, providing a vibrant and modern appearance.

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci stated that sports investments will continue to expand within a needs-based programme designed to strengthen healthy living opportunities for residents.
