Bodrum Commemorates Atatürk on the 87th Anniversary of His Passing
Bodrum marked the 87th anniversary of the passing of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Türkiye, with a series of commemoration ceremonies held across the city
The official ceremony took place in Bodrum Municipality Square, where the event drew strong public participation. Attendees included District Governor Ali Sırmalı, Muğla MP Süreyya Öneş Derici, Garrison Commander Colonel Ayhan Ulutaş, Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Sezgin Kılıccı, representatives of public institutions, political parties, NGOs, municipal council members, veterans, students, teachers, municipal staff and citizens.
The programme began with the laying of wreaths by the District Governor’s Office, the Garrison Command, and the Municipality. At 09:05, the crowd observed a moment of silence, accompanied by sirens, followed by the National Anthem, marking the end of the ceremony at the square.
Commemoration Continued at Herodotus Cultural Centre
Later in the day, a commemorative programme was held at the Herodotus Cultural Centre, coordinated by the Bodrum District Directorate of National Education and organised by Şehit Mahmut Coşkunsu Secondary Schooland Private Turgutreis Uğur Secondary School.
The event opened with the National Anthem, followed by speeches by School Principal Raziye Güner and District Governor Ali Sırmalı, who reflected on Atatürk’s enduring legacy and ideals.
The programme continued with an award ceremony and concluded with an emotionally resonant student performance titled “Farewell to Atatürk, Eternal Respect.”.
