A CENTURY OF LIGHT: MAYOR MANDALİNCİ’S REPUBLIC DAY MESSAGE

Mayor Mandalinci: “The Republic Is a Promise Written to the Future”

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci issued a heartfelt message marking the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, reflecting on its enduring ideals and the collective responsibility of future generations to uphold them.

“A century ago, a nation rose from its ashes,” Mayor Mandalinci said. “Amid the ruins of war, a nation chose not to surrender their destiny, but to rewrite it. That choice became one of humanity’s most honourable acts of defiance. The name of that act was the Republic.”

In his message, Mandalinci emphasised that the Republic represents far more than a system of governance, it is the voice of a people who had long been silent, the triumph of intellect over ignorance, and the victory of freedom over submission.

“For the first time in these lands, the meaning of being a citizen, of equality, and of having a say in one’s own life came into being. The Republic, founded under the visionary leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was not only won on the battlefield but in the minds, consciences, and hearts of the people.

Mayor Mandalinci underlined that the Republic’s essence lies in reason, science, equality and social justice, values that remain vital in today’s world.

“It empowered women to be active participants in public life, gave responsibility to youth, will to the people, and honour to the nation”, he said.

“The Republic is an unfinished journey. It will not be complete until equality, freedom, justice, labour and nature’s rights are protected. Each day we continue to rebuild its foundation by striving for a society where every citizen lives with dignity.”

The Mayor also echoed Atatürk’s timeless words:

“The Republic is the protector of those who have none. It is an order of equality that excludes no one and listens to every voice.”

Mayor Mandalinci concluded his message by honouring the founders and defenders of the Republic: “The 102nd anniversary is not merely a commemoration, it is the celebration of independence, progress and the enduring power of the people’s will. On this meaningful day, we remember Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, and all martyrs with gratitude and respect.

The Republic, our greatest legacy, shall continue to illuminate Türkiye’s path for generations to come.”
