MAYOR MANDALİNCİ MARKS WORLD PEACE DAY WITH MESSAGE OF HOPE

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci calls for unity, solidarity and peace in his World Peace Day message

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci has issued a heartfelt message on 1 September, World Peace Day, calling for unity, solidarity and a renewed commitment to peace in a time of global uncertainty.

Reflecting on both history and the challenges of the present, the Mayor reminded citizens that humanity has long borne the scars of war, injustice, poverty and pandemics, and that today, economic hardship, social division, violence and hatred continue to cast their shadows.

“Peace can no longer be treated as a distant ideal”, Mandalinci said. “It is the very foundation of human dignity, the essence of life itself, and the only path to a future we can face with hope.”

From Victory to Peace

Mayor Mandalinci drew a link between Türkiye’s struggle for independence and the universal quest for peace:

“The victory of 30 August was not simply a military triumph; it was a testament to the will to live freely, securely and together. Its legacy compels us to defend peace in every circumstance, to nurture love, and to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood. Victory is the pride of our past; peace is the guarantee of our future.”

Peace as a Way of Life

The Mayor went on to stress that peace is more than the absence of conflict:

“Peace is where anger gives way to compassion, division to understanding and darkness to light. Here in Bodrum, with our long tradition of tolerance and solidarity, peace has always found a home. Today, we pledge once again: we shall replace hatred with love, anger with empathy and isolation with solidarity. Peace is not a choice, it is humanity’s only salvation.”

A Promise for the Future

Concluding his message, Mayor Mandalinci framed Bodrum’s call for peace as both a pledge and a duty:

“By uniting the spirit of victory on 30 August with the resolve for peace on 1 September, we send a message to the world: peace is indispensable. It is not merely a message, but a promise, of determination, of hope and of a future shaped by justice and humanity.”

The message stood as both a commemoration of the past and a commitment to the future, reaffirming Bodrum’s role as a city of harmony, tolerance and shared humanity.
