In response to rising temperatures and the risk of water scarcity, Bodrum Municipality has launched a water replenishment initiative targeting rural ponds across several neighborhoods.

Carried out by the Senitation Services Directorate, the program involves regular water deliveries to ponds in the rural zones of Çiftlik, Kızılağaç, Kumköy, Yeniköy and Mumcular. These bodies of water are critical for supporting local wildlife and livestock, especially during the dry summer months.

182 Tons of Water Delivered to 20 Ponds

Following inspections and community input, a total of 182 tons of water was distributed to approximately 20 ponds. Local residents also contributed to the effort, using tractors to assist with transporting water at regular intervals.

Launched in 2019, the initiative aims to prevent complete depletion of water levels in ponds due to extreme heat, ensure adequate resources for wild animals and support livestock farmers in rural communities.

The water supply operations will continue periodically throughout the summer, coordinated by the Municipality’s Senitation Services Directorate.
