SEABED CLEANUP IN TORBA
16.07.2025
The 10th stage of Bodrum Municipality’s long-running “Blue Suits the Sea Best” initiative took place in the coastal neighbourhood of Torba this week, reinforcing the city’s commitment to marine preservation.
Organised by the Municipality’s Support Services and Senitation Services Directorate, the event brought together a team of volunteer divers, primarily composed of municipal personnel, who carried out seabed cleaning activities in Torba Bay. Deputy Mayor Kanat Hasan Özsert attended the event on behalf of Mayor Tamer Mandalinci.
Thanks to years of environmental awareness campaigns, the divers reported only a small amount of waste retrieved from the sea floor. This encouraging result was interpreted as a sign of growing public consciousness and responsible marine usage by the local community. The recovered waste was displayed outside the municipal café along Torba’s shoreline to raise public awareness, before being transferred to the Bodrum Recycling Collection Centre in Konacık for proper disposal.
Speaking after the event, Deputy Mayor Özsert praised the people of Torba, stating: “Torba has truly set an example for us. This was one of the cleanest seabed operations we have conducted so far. I want to thank everyone who uses this bay and especially the local residents. If this becomes the standard, we’re confident that by the end of this year’s campaign, Bodrum will be reunited with crystal-clear sea.”.
Bodrum Municipality remains committed to a cleaner environment and the protection of its marine ecosystem through ongoing initiatives and community-driven action.
