As part of Bodrum Municipality’s long-running campaign “Blue Suits the Sea Best”, the eighth stage of this year’s underwater clean-up operations was held in the coastal neighborhood of Gündoğan on Wednesday, July 2.

Organized by the Directorate of Support Services and Cleaning Affairs, the event brought together a team of volunteer divers made up of municipal staff. Representing Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, Municipal Council Member İbrahim Özten participated in the event alongside Gündoğan Fisheries Cooperative President Mustafa Eser and Gündoğan Neighborhood Head Ali İneci.

Divers collected a total of 168 kilograms of waste from the seabed, which was publicly displayed at Gündoğan harbor to raise awareness. The waste was then transferred to Bodrum’s 1st Class Waste Collection Center in Konacık for proper recycling.

Municipal Council Member Özten emphasized the importance of protecting Bodrum’s marine environment, noting a decrease in marine litter over the years. “Preserving the sea, one of our city’s most beautiful features, is a shared responsibility”, he said.

Fisheries Cooperative President Eser called for greater care from residents living near streams, pointing out that much of the litter reaches the sea through canal systems. Meanwhile, Neighborhood Head İneci expressed gratitude to Mayor Mandalinci and all involved for their efforts.

The underwater clean-up campaign will continue in Türkbükü on Wednesday, July 9.
