MUNICIPAL POLICE ENFORCE CLEAR STREETS POLICY İN TOURIST HOTSPOT
01.07.2025
Municipal police teams (zabıta) have intensified inspections against illegal sidewalk and street occupation, one of the most frequently reported complaints by residents and visitors alike. In the recent operation conducted on Friday, June 27, more than 70 businesses in the Gümbet neighborhood were inspected, resulting in administrative fines for 11 establishments.
The enforcement follows direct warnings from Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, who recently visited Gümbet and emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward encroachments. Despite prior notifications from municipal authorities, some shops continued to occupy public space, prompting action from the Zabıta teams.
Inspections on Zengin Hüseyin Street and Ayaz Avenue focused on clearing sidewalks and roadways. In addition to fines under the Misdemeanors Law, illegally parked motorcycles were removed and in one case, penalized due to the owner being unreachable.
Municipal officials confirmed that inspections will continue on a regular basis. They stressed that penalties are a last resort, but the warning period has ended and enforcement will now be applied decisively to ensure public order and accessibility.
