A SEA FOR EVERYONE: BARRIER-FREE SEA ACCESS INTRODUCED
23.06.2025
Bodrum Municipality has taken a significant step toward promoting inclusivity by launching a new rail system designed to provide easier sea access for individuals with special needs. Installed at the Turgutreis Sunset Public Beach, this innovative system enables safe and independent entry into the sea for those with limited mobility.
The newly implemented device, powered by solar energy, offers an autonomous and user-friendly experience, allowing users to move along a guided track directly into the water. The system's pilot launch was marked by a public demonstration attended by Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, deputy mayors, municipal council members, local headmen and citizens.
This initiative is part of the municipality’s broader effort to create an accessible and inclusive urban environment across the Bodrum Peninsula. The project has been met with enthusiasm and appreciation from local residents and community representatives.
Cengiz Sarıoğlu, Chairman of the Turgutreis Association for People with Disabilities and Youth Sports Club (ENGENÇDER), journalist Ali Peltek and several individuals with special needs expressed their satisfaction with the project, emphasizing its importance in promoting equal access to public spaces.
Speaking at the launch event, Mayor Mandalinci stated:
“Together with the Metropolitan Municipality, we had already transformed Turgutreis Sunset Beach into an accessible location. With this latest innovation, we aim to provide the disadvantaged citizens with quick, safe and independent access to the sea through an automated system. We’ve initiated this as a pilot project at Sunset Beach, and based on public demand, we plan to expand it to other neighborhoods across Bodrum. Our vision is a Bodrum where every individual, regardless of their physical ability, can fully participate in life, enjoying its streets, parks, squares and coastline. We look forward to building a barrier-free Bodrum, together.”
