PROTECTING THE BLUE: THIRD PHASE OF SEABED CLEANUP HELD IN BİTEZ

The third stage of Bodrum Municipality’s long-running underwater cleanup campaign, organized under the slogan “Blue Suits the Sea Best”, took place this week in Bitez.
The initiative, now in its eleventh year, aims to protect the vibrant blue waters of Bodrum. During the latest cleanup, volunteers recovered a range of marine debris, including glass and plastic bottles, drink cans, plastic crates and even a car tire.
The event was organized by the municipality’s Support Services & Cleaning Affairs Directorates, with participation from volunteer divers made up of municipal staff. representing mayor Tamer Mandalinci, deputy mayor Hasan Kanat Özsert, municipal council member Hüseyin Cem Köylü, and department officials were present to support the effort. In total, 223 kilograms of waste were removed from the seabed.
To raise awareness, the recovered waste was displayed along Bitez beach before being sent to the Waste Collection Center in Konacık for recycling.
The next stage of the underwater cleanup is scheduled to take place in Ortakent on Wednesday, June 4.
