MAYOR MANDALİNCİ MARKS 19 MAY WITH A CALL FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

In a powerful message commemorating 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, Mayor Tamer Mandalinci honoured the historical and symbolic significance of the date while addressing the current challenges facing Türkiye’s youth.

“19 May is not only a turning point in our history,” stated Mandalinci, “but also a symbol of freedom, determination and belief in the future.”. Recalling the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence in 1919, the mayor described the day as the first step toward intellectual liberation and the building of a modern society.

Marking the 106th anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun, Mandalinci emphasised the continued relevance of youth in shaping the nation’s destiny. Mandalinci pointed to economic hardship, unemployment, polarisation and uncertainty as ongoing struggles, calling on young people to rise with the same resolve shown a century ago.

“Today’s youth are not only remembering history, they are embodying truth, reason and science”, Mayor Mandalinci noted, highlighting their efforts in universities, laboratories, farms, workshops and digital spaces.

Expressing unwavering trust in the younger generation, Mandalinci declared: “The hope, future, and strongest guarantee of this country lie in the conscience, intellect and hearts of our youth.”

Mayor Mandalinci concluded by reaffirming his commitment to standing with young people: “This struggle will continue with them. No voice that walks the path of reason, science, and common sense will ever be silenced.”
